Driver Identification Badge Details
A driver identification badge authorizes a driver to operate a vehicle for hire or taxicab in Hillsborough County. DIB are issued by the Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s office and are valid for 12 months. All driver identification badge services are offered at our North Tampa office.
Note: Every driver operating a vehicle in a business must have their own valid DIB.

To apply for a DIB you will need the following:
- Complete the Application for a Driver Identification Badge (DIB).
- Be sure to answer all questions.
- The application must be signed.
- Access the Application for a Driver Identification Badge Packet (PDF).
- Present application in person to our North Tampa office located at 3011 University Center Drive, Suite 150, Tampa, Florida 33612.
- Present original social security card and valid Florida Driver License *Non-U.S. Citizen must bring appropriate documentation of U.S. residency or citizenship.
- Present your Florida Driver’s License and 7 year driver license transcript issued within 30 days of application. Learn how to request your driver license transcript.
- Present signed Acknowledgement of Ordinance 17-22; Exhibit A. (included in application packet).
- Present signed Compliance Affidavit (included in application packet).
- Pay the $65.00 application fee at the time of application.
ALL Handicab Operators/Drivers must complete and submit proof of certifications for the following within 30 days of obtaining a DIB:
- Certified standard first aid course
- State certified standard CPR training course
- Defensive driving course
Important: All drivers issued DIB’s to operate a handicab must maintain the required certifications listed above and must provide evidence or proof each year upon renewal.
After DIB Application Has Been Submitted:
- Step 1: Present the transmittal form (provided by your HCTC representative) to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office I.D. Section located at 1238 Tech Blvd, Tampa, FL 33619. They will capture your photo and fingerprints. You will receive a letter from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) containing a QR code for payment of the $37.50 fingerprint processing fee. Upon payment completion, your fingerprints will be processed, and background checks will be conducted.
- Step 2: Contact our office by phone within 4-5 business days after your fingerprinting appointment. Upon approval, you will be directed to collect your DIB badge from the Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s Office located at 3011 University Center Drive, Suite 150, Tampa, Florida 33612.
All Vehicle for Hire Drivers must renew their DIB annually.
To renew, you must submit a DIB application along with your application fee. Access the Application for a Driver Identification Badge Packet (PDF).
Drivers must notify the Hillsborough County Tax Collector (HCTC) when your personal address changes. Access the Change of Address Form (PDF).
If your DIB is lost or stolen, please visit our North Tampa office to retrieve a new one. You will need to bring proof of identification (i.e. your current driver license). The fee for a replacement DIB is $35.00.
